Students - Please arrive before 9:00 AM for dojo salt purification and cleaning. This will be followed by Misogi (bring fundoshi & towel) and then Hatsu Geiko. This is the chance to invite your friends, co-workers, fellow (outside) students or any former NYAC students that you are still in touch with to join us at 11:00 AM for the Hatsu Geiko portion of the day. Please also extend an invitation for them to join us at 12:00 Noon when refreshments, and a Dojo "Potluck" will be served for for Kagami Baraki. Aikido Seminar - Shaun Ravens Sensei Rochester, New York - November 2002 You are invited to attend an open seminar featuring Shaun Ravens Sensei. This seminar will be held Saturday, November 9th. This seminar will cover basic and intermediate level instruction in kansetsu & Nage waza (joint locking & throwing techniques); kaeshi waza (reversal techniques); kokyu waza (unification techniques); and te-sabaki (hand movements) as they relate to both aikido techniques and randori (multiple person freestyle attacks). There will also be a session focusing on both bokken (wooden sword) suburi and kumi-tachi (paired sword practice), so please bring your own bokken.This seminar is open to all martial artists, regardless of style, rank or affiliation. We encourage all to attend. If you have any questions, please send an e-mail as soon as possible. Location and registration information to be posted the week of October 21st. Ravens Sensei will be one of the demonstrators at the Friendship Demonstration in conjunction with the East Coast "Building Bridges" Aikido Seminar. Dojo in Irvine, California - Saturday, June 26th 2002 Matsuoka Sensei To Demonstrate at the Aiki Expo Mark your calendar for May 3rd - 5th, 2002. Haruo Matsuoka Sensei will be participating in the 5th Friendship Demonstration held in conjunction with Aiki Expo 2002, in Las Vegas. This event is hosted by Aikido Journal. Haruo Matsuoka Sensei, 5th Dan Aikido Doshinokai Training & Kyu Test Aikido Doshinokai Black Belt Test Aikido Training - Westchester, NY Shaun Ravens is now sharing the triangle-circle-square concepts taught to him by his teacher, Haruo Matsuoka Sensei, 5th Dan. Classes cover basic kansetsu waza (joint locks), kokyu waza (moving with proper breathing), nage waza (throwing techniques) and ukemi waza (receiving techniques and falling - each with proper attitude) all with a focus on proper posture and timing. The goal of this series is for participants to be able to incorporate these ideas into their own aikido, regardless of style. Training is on scheduled Sundays, from 12:30 to 2:00 PM. Current students are from various backgrounds, and include Tomiki; Aikikai; Kokikai; Doshinokai; USAF, etc. All styles and affiliations are welcome and encouraged to attend. Sensei has spent the past several years aligning himself with Seiseki Abe Shihan, 10th Dan who was one of O-Sensei's closest disciples. Come take advantage of what he has gleaned from this great master. This class will focus on basic, intermediate and advanced aikido principles. Human Spirit Festival Come and be a part of this rare, once in a lifetime event. We are hosting this festival in hopes that we may present Japanese Cultural art forms at the highest level.
