Shiro Matsuoka Sensei
Macrobiotics - Eastern Nutrition

Mr. Shiro Matsuoka was born in Japan, in 1927. At the age of 19, he became a disciple of the founder of Macrobiotics, Nyoichi Sakurazawa (George Ohsawa). Since that time, he has spent the last forty years studying and teaching the fundamentals of Macrobiotics. Matsuoka Sensei had been the longtime Chairman and President of Seishoku Kyoukai, The Japan Macrobiotics Association, overseeing its ten thousand members and 124 natural food stores and restaurants, until his recent retirement in 1995. He also has many publications including "Food and Health," "Macrobiotic Treatment," Macrobiotic Therapy," and "Healthy Chewing Methods." He is undoubtedly one of the worlds foremost authorities on Yin/Yang theory, about which he continues to give lectures, classes, and seminars.

Recently the theories of this balanced approach to life and its powerful, natural healing methods as it relates to food and diet are being sought out and proven by western doctors and nutritionists as an adjunct to traditional Western medicine. Matsuoka Sensei's tireless efforts, and the passion he has for what he does combined with his light-hearted teaching methods have enabled him to contribute to the lives of over one hundred thousand people world wide.
